Motley Crue VS. Bad Reality TV

FINALLY!!!! After waiting two long years, it's finally here! Nikki Sixx's autobiography is in my grimy, little hands! A review of the book is forthcoming, but I have to finish reading Lemmy's autobiography, White Line Fever, first.

Next purchase is the soundtrack that goes along with The Heroin Diaries. I listened to a few choice songs today on myspace, and I have to admit that I'm impressed. I'm always scared when Motley Crue members do solo projects. Nikki Sixx never lets me down.

While we're on the topic of Motley Crue, I'd like to get a few things off my chest. I know this is old news, but I'd like to discuss Motley Crue suing one of their managers, Carl Stubner for making poor business decisions and for "forcing" Tommy Lee to do bad reality TV shows that in turn "tarnished" the band's reputation.

I hate to say anything bad about one of my favorite bands of all time, but...Are these boys out of their god damn minds? This may be one of the dumbest law suits ever. Obviously, I don't know all of the details, but it still seems a bit ridiculous to me.

I understand that the band lost money because they had to cancel some tour dates, but I don't know that the manager is necessarily to blame for this. Tommy Lee's got a mind of his own and could have said no to any of that shit that his manager put in front of him (and let's be honest...we kinda wish he would have). Tommy Lee Goes To College wasn't that bad; I watched it every week and thought it was kind of funny. And I'll admit that I didn't watch Rock Star Supernova because I knew it was going to be a train wreck, and I just couldn't put myself through that. However, I had plenty of friends who watched it religiously and thought it was great. I'm pretty sure neither of those shows did anything to hurt the reputation of the band.

If anyone should get sued for doing bad reality TV, it should be Vince Neil. Why didn't the rest of Motley Crue stop him from doing the Surreal Life or The Remaking of Vince Neil? Dear god...watching Vince get plastic surgery made me want to throw up. And someone should sue Desmond Child for writing such a wretched song for Vince; that song made me want to go deaf.

And as far as Motley Crue being pissed off about losing money...how much more money can they make? I can't imagine that this career hasn't been lucrative enough for them. Look at all the tours and CD's and t-shirts and books and DVD's (and god knows what else) that they've had. All of that had to have made them a pretty fucking penny over the years. Do they really want to whore themselves out like Gene Simmons and KISS? I hope not.

Regardless, Motley Crue will go down in the Rock 'N Roll record books as being one of the greatest rock bands to ever exist. For me, this law suit is doing more to tarnish their reputation than any reality TV show that Tommy Lee did. For a super fan like me, it's just disappointing and heartbreaking to see your favorite band squabble over some stupid shit. Again, I don't know all the details and I suppose that the band doesn't really think that this is stupid shit, but it's still disappointing nonetheless.

I should keep going and talk about Kid Rock bitch slapping Tommy Lee, but I don't have the energy.

That lawsuit is atrocious. It's another mockery. I'm a huge Motley fan as well and I've really been disappointed with lineup changes and Vince Neil for years. To me, I've lost respect for the band a long time ago. It's supposed to be about the rock, not all the girly B.S. These guys were my heroes as a kid...Just like Gene, Paul, Axl, Slash, Bret, JBJ, and anyone else who was in Circus and Hit Parader. You're right about Nikki not letting us down, even Brides was awesome. This new stuff though, it's a little too soggy and emotional for me. I know it matches the subject matter but I like the party vibe they used to have. Good post! Keep 'em comin.

Whew! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this lawsuit is ridiculous! I felt kinda bad having these horrbile feelings about my favorite band, but it's good to know someone else out there feels the same way. Thanks!
